Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) will host the second of its four-part Senior Speaker Series on Thursday, June 12 at the VNA headquarters (12565 West Center Road) from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. focusing on Vision and Hearing. The senior speaker series is open to the public and educates seniors, caregivers and healthcare professionals on various topics about how seniors can maintain their independence while remaining safe at home. Lunch is included.

VNA’s featured speakers include Dr. Dennis Dunning, Ph.D., SLP, CCC and Linda Svatora, OTR/L, OTD, MBA. Dunning and Svatora’s presentation about Vision and Hearing will cover:

  • An overview of the hearing mechanism 
  • Types of hearing loss 
  • Basic concepts of hearing aids 
  • Common vision problems 
  • Lighting to improve vision and safety 
  • Simple modifications in the home that can help with day-to-day activities

This presentation will also take place in Council Bluffs on Friday, June 13 at The Center (714 South Main St.) from 11:30am – 1:00pm.
