OneWorld Community Health Centers, Inc., is pleased to announce that it recently received a $576,900 grant for six programs from United Way of the Midlands. Thanks to the generosity of the United Way donors, OneWorld will help more than 34,000 children and adults to improve their health.

The Community Clinics Program will provide access and basic health care for 3,000 uninsured children living at or below 200% of Federal Poverty Level (FPL). Children will receive immunizations as well as lead, vision, hearing and developmental screenings. OneWorld will also assess and assist children with weight, asthma, chronic disease, alcohol and drug use, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and depression.

The Health Supportive Services Program will offer critical case management for an estimated 16,400 patients with chronic conditions and diseases including asthma, cancer, depression, diabetes, HIV, hypertension, latent tuberculosis and STIs. The program also provides assistance with enrollment in Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP and ADC.

The Integrated Primary and Behavioral Health Care (IPBHC) Program will improve access to quality comprehensive health care for 1,700 patients in South Omaha who are at risk for or live in poverty. The team, consisting of a primary care physician, behavioral health therapist, clinical pharmacist and support staff, will assist patients in establishing a medical home at OneWorld.

The International Center Health Education Program will connect 1,100 refugees and immigrants with health care (including immunizations and health education) and social services in partnership with Lutheran Family Services’ International Center of the Heartland. OneWorld’s bilingual Referral Coordinator Nurse provides outreach, assessment, referrals and case management for patients with varying issues including sexually transmitted and chronic diseases.

The Mobile Dental Program will provide dental exams and treatment at no cost to 750 low-income at-risk children who would not otherwise receive care. Children at elementary schools, community organizations and Head Start sites in Northeast and Northwest Omaha will receive cleanings, X-rays, fluoride varnish, sealants, toothbrush/toothpaste, & oral health education materials in partnership with Charles Drew Health Center.

The Quick Sick Program will deliver quality, affordable health care during convenient weeknight and weekend hours to 1,700 patients at OneWorld’s Livestock Exchange Campus. The program treats minor injuries and illnesses such as colds, flu, cough, sore throat and lacerations. Without the Quick Sick Clinic, patients often delay or forgo medical care, which can result in more serious illnesses and emergency room visits.

“Funding from United Way of the Midlands is critical to the meeting the basic health needs of our patients. OneWorld greatly appreciates United Way’s continued support of existing programs, and we are especially excited to extend mobile dental services to low-income children across the city,” said Andrea Skolkin, CEO of OneWorld.
