The increased scrutiny of government spending in health care over the last four years has spurred business for companies like StrategicHealthSolutions, LLC (Strategic). The Omaha-based company works as an elite contractor with Federal government entities such, as the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Justice, to prevent misuse of funds and to recoup misspent dollars. Their goal is to help ensure the sustainability of the American health care system.

Most recently, Strategic was recognized as one of America’s fastest growing companies for the second consecutive year by Inc. Magazine’s 2014 Inc. 500|5000. Ranked according to percentage of revenue growth from 2010 to 2013, Strategic achieved a 352% increase to be 81st out of 213 government services companies and fourth out of 28 Nebraska companies to make the list.

“Every year we work as a team to set the bar higher, and every year we advance our goal to move into the large government contracts arena,” said Strategic CEO Peg Stessman. “The wonderful thing about being in a business that supports the interests of every single American citizen is that when Strategic succeeds, the American people benefit.”

The company’s outstanding year is noteworthy in terms of other major awards and advances including:

  • In 2014, Strategic moved into larger headquarters in Omaha and expanded their office in Columbia, Md., to make room for an additional 100 employees to handle more work for Medicare and Medicaid contracts.
  • Strategic was recognized with two prestigious awards by SmartCEO Magazine in 2014. They received the Future 50 Award, honoring companies that are “the future of the (Washington DC) economy and embody the entrepreneurial spirit critical for leadership and success.” Strategic also won their GovStar Award in the Medium Star Performer category for technology innovation, workplace environment, growth, veteran support and contributions to the industry and the marketplace.
  • Strategic made the Washington Technology Fast 50, which ranks the fastest growing small-businesses in the government market. Strategic ranked 33rd in the Fast 50 for revenue growth, a significant jump from 46th in 2013, when it ranked 33rd.
  • Strategic also completed its first full year operating as a Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) level 3 company, having achieved this prestigious level in 2013.

Looking forward to 2015, the company is poised to continue its work within CMS, as well as expand its customer base to support more federal agencies and entities that provide health care services.

“The year ahead promises to be very challenging in terms of continued scrutiny into federal government health care spending. Our challenge will be to continue to provide impactful support to government entities as they are challenged to do more with less. Our role will be in helping to find new and innovative ways to drive a higher return on investment of federal dollars for health care across domestic and military programs,” Stessman said.

Specifically, Stessman notes the possibility of new approaches and program integrity needs at the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). “The enormous bipartisan support that Sylvia Burwell received during her confirmation as the DHHS Secretary, and the unanimous approval of Robert McDonald as the new head of VA sent a major signal that it is not going to be business as usual.”

Stessman anticipates that both agencies will announce initiatives to enhance their ongoing program integrity efforts and asserts that Strategic is ready to support them. “These agencies need fresh, innovative solutions that save dollars, and that is exactly what Strategic provides,” Stessman said.
