Omaha Performing Arts is pleased to recognize seven Nebraska schools for their work on anti-bullying projects, applying what they learned at the WICKED Anti-Bullying Summit. In May 2014 over 250 attendees participated in an anti-bullying summit coordinated by Omaha Performing Arts. It aimed to equip students and educators with the skills to respond to hate- and bias-motivated bullying. Schools were encouraged to share the lessons they learned in their school’s communities. Their work on these follow up projects has earned each school an official No Place for Hate designation with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) for the 2014-2015 school year.

The top projects were submitted by Belvedere Elementary School, Omaha: Bennington High School, Bennington, Neb.; Conestoga High School, Murray, Neb.; and Nathan Hale Magnet Middle School, Omaha. To acknowledge their work in making their communities more respectful and inclusive, these four schools were awarded 250 tickets to attend an Omaha Performing Arts Student Matinee Series performance of their choice this spring. Omaha South High Magnet School, Omaha Public Schools Career Center and Platteview High School, Platteview, Neb., were also recognized for their projects and awarded 100 tickets each to attend a matinee.

All seven schools were designated as No Place for Hate schools with the ADL which signifies their commitment to creating safer learning environments. The ADL will award each school a No Place for Hate banner to display on campus featuring the school’s logo, the No Place for Hate logo, and the current school year.
