REP. ASHFORD JOINS EXPORT-IMPORT BANK CHAIRMAN IN OMAHA SALES PITCH

With Fred Hochberg, Chairman of the Export-Import Bank (EXIM Bank) of the United States, on hand today Rep. Brad Ashford (NE-02) and several Nebraska businesses redoubled their support of the Bank’s future and its job creating history.

The EXIM Bank’s charter is set to expire June 30 and Rep. Ashford invited Chairman Hochberg to a roundtable discussion at the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce.

Rep. Ashford supports a bipartisan-nationwide effort to reauthorize the Bank through the 2022 fiscal year.

“We put prosperity over politics in Nebraska,” Rep. Ashford told Chairman Hochberg. “I sense a coming together for the good of the economy, creating solid, middle class jobs.”

In fiscal year 2014 EXIM Bank supported approximately $107 million in Nebraska exports, nearly half of which were small business exports.

Since 2009 the Bank has created 1.3 million American jobs and reduced the federal deficit by $6.9 billion over the last two decades.

The House of Representatives is looking at legislation which would not only extend the Bank’s charter but make changes in how it operates.

In 1984 Former President Ronald Reagan famously said, “Exports create and sustain jobs for millions of American workers and contribute to the growth and strength of the U.S. economy. The Export-Import Bank contributes in a significant way to our nation’s export sales.”

Aides to Sen. Ben Sasse, Reps. Jeff Fortenberry (NE-01) and Adrian Smith (NE-03) were also on hand for the roundtable.
