Omaha, Neb. – Project Harmony would like to congratulate two of their outstanding leaders, Gene Klein and Deb Anderson, recently recognized through the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO).

Each spring, the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice hosts a scholarship and awards luncheon to recognize the achievements of the school’s alumni, faculty and students.  This year’s Outstanding Community Service Award was awarded to Gene Klein, Executive Director of Project Harmony.  Under his leadership, Project Harmony has become a national model in responding to child maltreatment.  Klein is an active volunteer.  He is a former chairman of the board of the National Children’s Alliance in Washington, D.C. and he serves on Governor Pete Rickett’s Commission for the Protection of Children.  Additionally, he was appointed by the Nebraska Legislature to serve on the Children’s Commission.  And that’s not all!

Klein was also awarded the UNO Public Service Award for Outstanding Grassroots Non-Profit Administrator.  His nomination stated, “Over his illustrious career in serving children and families, Mr. Klein has demonstrated unwavering support and commitment to the protection and healing of children and families affected by abuse.”

Deb Anderson, Ph.D. was also recognized this spring through the UNO College of Public Affairs and Community Service’s Alumni Award for Excellence in Public Service. Anderson is director of “Connections,” a newly-created mental health program for children and families here at Project Harmony.  Prior to her current position, she served as Director of Training and Coordination, having trained more than 30,000 students and professionals since 2007.  Before her work at Project Harmony, Anderson served as a professor of social work at both UNO and Creighton University.
