The Omaha Police Foundation will present its 15th Annual Omaha Police Officer of the Year Awards Luncheon on Thursday, April 23, at 11:30 a.m. at the Scott Conference Center, 6450 Pine Street. Thirty-four Officers and six non-sworn support personnel, including the entire Homicide Task Force, will be recognized at the Luncheon for their outstanding work. The 2014 Officer of the Year will be chosen from among the honorees.

The Foundation is pleased to announce Bill Cutler as the Chair of this year’s awards luncheon. Cutler is a Partner with Heafey-Hoffman-Dworak & Cutler Mortuaries in Omaha, Cutler-O’Neill Funeral Home in Council Bluffs, and owner of seven other funeral homes and four cemeteries. He currently serves as Board President of the Nebraska Organ Recovery System, and also serves as a Governor of the Ak-Sar-Ben Foundation as well as serving on the Board of Directors for College of St. Mary and Physicians Mutual. Cutler has served his community in numerous capacities including as a member of the board of directors of a wide range of public, private and non-profit entities. He is a member of the 2015 class of inductees to the Omaha Business Hall of Fame and is a long-time member of Rotary.

“It’s easy for us to take the men and women of the Omaha Police Force for granted. Their efforts often go unnoticed and unappreciated, even though they put themselves in harm’s way to protect our city, day in and day out,” Cutler said. “Sworn to protect public safety anytime and anywhere, they are never ‘off duty’—so it’s entirely fitting that we take the time to honor all the men and women who respond first, in our greatest moments of need, and to recognize those who have distinguished themselves with extraordinary and even heroic service.”

The public is invited to attend the Luncheon, which will also feature an outdoor exhibit of various law enforcement units and vehicles including M.E.R.V. (Metro Emergency Response Vehicle), a police motorcycle, the newest model police cruiser, the “Join OPD” Hummer H3 and a horse and rider from the Mounted Patrol Unit. Inside the Scott Conference Center, visitors will be able to see displays on crime prevention, neighborhood watch and Explorer Post 591, which is managed through OPD’s Crime Prevention Unit.

Individual tickets are available for $75, or a table of 10 can be reserved for $750. Two chairs at each table may be donated for honored police personnel. Contact Omaha Police Foundation Administrator Elizabeth Balazs at (402) 345-5401, ext. 102, or ebalazs@vgagroup.com by Friday, April 17 to purchase tickets. Tickets will not be available at the luncheon.
