NFC invites you to attend its next Community Advisory Board Meeting on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Lake Point Center, Multi-Purpose Room, located at 2401 Lake Street in Omaha. The theme of this meeting is Aftercare and the Right Turn Program. Two speakers will present – Brenna Poindexter, Parent2Parent and Outreach Coordinator for Right Turn and Sara Riffel, Aftercare Supervisor for Nebraska Families Collaborative.
Brenna Poindexter has worked in foster child adoption for eight years and became an adoptive parent to a teenage daughter. As the Parent2Parent and Outreach Coordinator for Right Turn, she developed and implements a peer support program for adoptive and guardianship parents and works to educate the community about adoption and the services Right Turn offers. Brenna is also a foster parent trainer for Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska and previously worked for Wendy’s Wonderful Kids (WWK), a research-based, signature program of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, finding permanent homes for Nebraska’s most traumatized young people. As a WWK recruiter, she was fortunate to receive training from countless national experts in the adoption of older youth. Additionally, Brenna has served Nebraska’s young people by working with various agencies on increasing permanency for older youth. She graduated from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in 2006, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.
Sara Riffel is the Aftercare Supervisor at NFC. Sara has also supervised Family Permanency Specialists and oversees independent living and transition services at NFC. Sara holds Masters degrees in Public Administration, Human Services and Counseling and is a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner specially trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-informed care and motivational interviewing. She has over 10 years of experience in the child welfare, behavioral health and non-profit fields and is passionate about making sure children and families are thriving and successful after their involvement in child welfare services.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend. A portion of each meeting is set aside for public comments and questions. A light meal is provided. Please contact NFC with questions at (402) 492-2500.
