Midland University hosts its “2015 Gospel Honors Choir Project” concert at the Holland Performing Arts Center in Omaha, Neb., on Sunday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. Designed to bring together local youth and community members through gospel music, the event features Salem Baptist Church’s “Salem Mass Choir”, the Christ Community Church Choir, Midland University performers, and hundreds of hand-selected high school singers from around Nebraska and Iowa. Headlining the event is Octavius Womack, a gospel recording artist from Los Angeles, Calif.
“Last year, we were able to unite students from over 50 different schools and churches. We’re excited to continue our efforts and bring more people together for 2015. We have the support of Thrivent Financial, Salem Baptist Church, Christ Community Church, and countless teachers and administrators on this important project,” says Erin Bradley, Midland Executive Director of the Performing Arts. “Bringing folks together is the mission. Gospel music lights a pathway we all can walk together on to reach this goal.”
Ananias M. Montague, Minster of Music and Fine Arts at Salem Baptist Church says, “We are bridging gaps with this initiative”.
The Gospel Honors Choir is comprised of hundreds of high school students from schools including Omaha Bryan, Norfolk, Gretna, Mead, Omaha Central, Thomas Jefferson, and Kearney. All high school students have been nominated by their church or school vocal directors.
Each student who participates receives a minimum of $10,000 scholarship to Midland University.
