Microsoft will end support for Windows Server 2003 on July 14, 2015.  Without support, business owners/operators may face new issues with security, regulatory compliance, data loss, application failure and increasing operating costs.

SECURITY

End of support means security patches and updates for Windows Server 2003 will no longer be available after July 14, 2015.  Any server running Windows 2003 will be more vulnerable to malicious attacks.  Your data, your customers data, and your IP will be at risk if the server is not upgraded.

COMPLIANCE

Businesses subject to regulations such as the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), HIPPA, and PCI, may face stiff penalties and huge fines if they are still running Windows Server 2003 post July 14, 2015.  Businesses that accept credit cards may lose their merchant privileges, if they continue to run those services on an unsupported Operating System (OS).

DATA LOSS

Without patches or updates, critical data may be at risk.  FEMA estimates that up to 70% of small to medium businesses that experience catastrophic data loss will fail within 12 months.

APPLICATION FAILURE

No support means applications running on Windows Server 2003 may not be recoverable if the OS fails.  Users will not have access to the tools they need to work, which could paralyze business operations.

OPERATING COSTS

Older servers are more expensive to operate and maintain.  They consume more power, generate more heat, and take up more space than modern servers.
