ONE NEBRASKA SMALL BUSINESS TO BE AWARDED OMAHA MAVERICKS’ MARKETING PARTNERSHIP THIS ATHLETIC SEASON
Mavs’ Partner Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska Behind Unique Small Business Opportunity
OMAHA, Neb. (Sept. 18, 2017) – As a complement to its existing relationship with the University of Nebraska Omaha Mavericks, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska introduced today a first-of-its-kind opportunity for Nebraska-based small businesses with 10-50 employees. The program entitled “Small Business Difference Maker” will award one business the opportunity to align with the Mavericks this collegiate athletics season.
Small businesses are encouraged to enter beginning today via omavs.com/smallbusiness. Additional criteria and information can be found on the site, and the winning small business will be recognized on October 17 at an evening event hosted by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska at its Omaha headquarters. The program will be supported digitally through the Omaha Mavericks official athletics website and its various social media platforms, and the winning organization can choose which athletics team to align with during the 2017-2018 season. Entries will be accepted through Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017.
“We see sports marketing with colleges as a key way to show local support of Nebraskans. This program with UNO Athletics is a win for college athletes and a small business looking for the opportunity to reach out to fans and the community. We’re proud to a part of such an innovative idea,” said Steve Grandfield, BCBSNE executive vice president of strategy and innovation.
All aspects of the health insurance company’s partnership are managed by Omaha Athletics’ multimedia rights holder, Learfield’s Omaha Sports Properties. UNO will provide updates to the program via Facebook, Twitter and omavs.com. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska will also use its social media channels to spread the word.
“We’re grateful for the opportunity to work alongside a great partner like Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska that cares deeply for our local community and is willing to leverage its own UNO relationship to create a one-of-a-kind program to benefit a small business in our state,” said Omaha Sports Properties General Manager Riley Courtright. “Blue Cross and Blue Shield, in their work with employers of all sizes across the state, was intent about working with us to craft something specifically for the small business owner. We’re looking forward to seeing which business we’ll be fortunate to work with in the coming months.”
