In the past year Omaha has been recognized as a top 10 city in which to start a business; to raise a family; as a location for a “staycation,” for professional women; green-friendly apartments; consumer banking; job seekers; and for new and expanding facilities. Quite an impressive list!

In a 2012 ranking of America’s 50 Best Cities in Bloomberg Business Week, Omaha was cited as #47. The article said the greatest weighting was placed on leisure amenities, followed by educational metrics and economic metrics, and then crime and air quality. Here is what they wrote:

“The home town of the Oracle, Warren Buffett, suffers from last-place air quality among the cities on this list. But Omahans have world-class activities to enjoy inside:”

While some argue both the science and data used to support this comment – perception often is reality.

This summer, we are launching year three of a campaign called Little Steps. Big Impact. funded through a grant from the Federal Highway Administration, METRO and the Metropolitan Area Planning Agency.

To be successful, we need your help in raising awareness of our air quality and encourage change in the behavior of you and your employees to reduce ground-level ozone.

On weekdays, during the month of July, we will offer residents the opportunity to leave their cars in their garages and ride the bus for only 50 cents, not including transfer fares which are still 25 cents.

We ask that you partner with us in promoting the campaign in your internal communications, tie the campaign into wellness initiatives and activities you may have going on already and build promotions around riding the bus with drawings at your business.

You can find more ideas on our website, www.LittleStepsBigImpact.com. Please consider participating in this very important campaign. If you have questions about the campaign contact us through the website.
