We need your help to make an impact in the Omaha community! We are challenging you to commit to 20 hours of volunteer service in 2015 as part of our initiative, Commit20.

Our company, Sun Valley Landscaping, has been in business for 20 years and we want to celebrate in a way that gives back to those who helped make us who we are. Commit20 is a community initiative we started out of that idea to challenge people to get involved in their communities by committing 20 hours of volunteer service in 2015.

It started out small, as an idea to just get our employees more involved in volunteer projects, but then we thought, ‘why limit it?’ What if we could come up with something that would last more than this year? What if we could get people all over Omaha to get involved and volunteer 20 hours? The idea of Commit20 spun off from there. We set a goal to get 500 people to commit 20 hours of service for a total of 10,000 hours served. It was a pretty lofty goal, but we believed it could be done.

As a company, we have donated money, services, and products, but we believe there is something much more personal and impactful when we choose to give our time instead. We hope that by recruiting people to volunteer 20 hours, we will be showing the world how powerful of an impact we can make by having everyone put in a little effort.

To keep track of the project we’ve launched an entire website for it: www.commit20.com. Where people can go online, make their pledge to commit 20 hours of service, browse volunteer opportunities in the Omaha area, log their hours, and upload photos of their volunteer service. When they pledge, we collect information about the different types of programs they’re interested in. This way we can send them personalized notifications about volunteer opportunities and events they might be interested in. We also send out weekly emails about different volunteer opportunities.

Right now, we’re looking at moving towards also planning different volunteer service events to help our pledges reach their 20 hours. Moreover, we’re working with our network of organizations to spread the word about Commit20 and get their current volunteers to sign up. Another goal we have is to get entire businesses involved where maybe the owner pledges first and then challenges all the employees to do the same.

To be involved in Commit20, all you have to do is sign up at www.commit20.com/pledge. After that, you just need to go out and volunteer! The last step is to go to www.commit20.com/log-hours and input how many hours you served so we can keep track of all the hours being served. So far we have 80 people who have made the pledge and they have logged a total of 204 hours. We still have a long way to go to reach our goal, but we are on our way!

Help us show the world the power of people coming together to make their community better. Take the next step, and Commit20 today!
