KETV NewsWatch 7 has earned a National Edward R. Murrow Award for Chronicle: Mission to Africa. The award is in the Best News Documentary category for television stations market size 50 and smaller. This is the first National Edward R. Murrow Award for KETV.

“This is an amazing honor for everyone at KETV,” said Ariel Roblin, KETV’s President and General Manager. “We took on this project because we knew it was a story that needed to be told.”

Written by Julie Cornell and shot by Andrew Ozaki, Chronicle: Mission to Africa followed local doctors and nurses to South Sudan where they helped locals with basic medical needs and their efforts to build a permanent medical clinic. The Healing Kadi foundation organizes these mission trips.

In addition to the National Edward R. Murrow Award, the special recently won Best of Show in the Omaha Press Club Excellence in Journalism competition and has been nominated for a regional Emmy. KETV also received an Andy Award, a $5,000 grant, from the University of Nebraska – Omaha Department of International Studies. The Andy Award recognizes the best international reporting by Nebraska based news organizations.

“We’re very thankful for the recognition Mission to Africa has received,” Roblin said.  “We hope it helps shine a national light on the great work being done by people right here in Nebraska and Iowa.”

In a celebration of this honor KETV will be rebroadcasting Chronicle: Mission to Africa on Sunday, June 29th at 11 AM.
