Manager, Special Events

Summary:

The Manager, Special Events is responsible for overseeing all aspects related to the creation, coordination and execution of annual fundraising events with a focus on the Corporate Cup event.  This includes securing sponsorship, participant recruitment, volunteer involvement, team building, marketing, budget, timelines, analysis and logistics.

Responsibilities:

  • Achieve revenue goals and ensure an effective execution of the Corporate Cup event.
  • Build and cultivate volunteer infrastructure to strengthen sponsorship revenue, corporate and community team recruitment and event day execution.
  • Staff event volunteer committees and assist in their fundraising efforts.
  • Secure and cultivate corporate sponsors and teams, meeting event sponsorship goals.
  • Work with special event team captains and participants to cultivate relationships and coach/assist them to success with utilizing best practices.  Serve as liaison for customer service and trouble shooting for signature events and internal kickoffs.
  • Plan, manage and evaluate special events including budget, goals, objectives and timelines.
  • Manage sponsor, donor and volunteer acknowledgement and recognition for special events/activities.
  • Utilize best practices to implement participant recruitment and cultivation activities including cultivation events, e-communication, mailings, material distribution, advertising, CRM.  Manage the utilization of American Lung Association databases and e-commerce platforms, Convio and ROI; serve as office lead on ROI.
  • Complete weekly bank deposit and execute money-handling procedures as requested by the Accounting Department and management.  Process memorial donations, contributions and create/send acknowledgements.
  • Prepare ongoing progress reports.
  • Oversee event budget and track revenue and expenses on a regular basis.
  • Manage event logistics and work closely with vendors and venues necessary for event execution.
  • Evaluate event results and make recommendations for the growth and future direction.
  • Complete special projects as assigned by the Executive Director.  
  • Work with counterparts throughout the Upper Midwest Region.

Qualifications:

  • B.A./B.S. degree in marketing or related field preferred.
  • Three – five years of nonprofit pledge-based event fundraising preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in securing sponsorship and reaching financial targets.
  • Demonstrated success in planning and managing fundraising events in the non-profit sector.
  • Able to communicate (verbal and written) and work effectively with volunteers and staff.
  • Superb organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in sales and/or relationship cultivation.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Flexibility to work occasional irregular hours, including evenings and weekends. 
  • Ability to travel occasionally.
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs. (event supplies).
