HRAM November Program & Member Orientation
Date:  Tuesday, November 8, 2016 Time: 10:30am – 2:00pm
Location: Scott Conference Center, 6450 Pine Street, Omaha

Extended keynote will be instructed by Judge D. Nick Caporale and litigators will include, Allison Balus and Heidi Guttau-Fox. The topic will include “HR Nightmare: Discrimination Lawsuit—Lessons via Mock Trial”.

How is it that juries decide employment cases? In this event, a live jury will be instructed by Judge D. Nick Caporale, hear compelling arguments from local employment litigators Allison Balus and Heidi Guttau-Fox with regard to a realistic discrimination lawsuit. The subject matter will be disability discrimination and relate to whether the Company provided appropriate reasonable accommodation to an employee.  Watch the process and the jury deliberate. You’ll discover how juries really decide employment-based suits!

The process:

  1. The Judge will read a summary of the case and jury instructions.
  2. The litigators will then present closing arguments.
  3. A real jury (made up of non-HR people from the Omaha community) will then deliberate while the audience observes/listens via camera.
  4. Once the verdict is read, the attorneys will speak with the jurors about what swayed them one way or another.
  5. The attorneys will then give practical take-aways so that employers do not end up in the same boat.

Watch the process and the jury deliberate. You’ll discover how juries really decide employment-based suits!

This Session has been pre-approved for 2.0 hours of HR CREDIT from the HR Certification Institute & 2.0 hours of SHRM-CP CREDIT from SHRM’s NEW Professional Development Certification.
