HRAM Government Affairs May Morning Session

Jessica C. Källström-Schreckengost, Jackson Lewis, will be presenting on “Gender Identity and Transgender Employees in the Workplace”.
Objectives:
- Establish an understanding of what “gender identity” and “transgender” mean in the current legal context
- Identify key laws applicable to the treatment of transgender employees in the workplace, including a discussion of rapidly changing federal law as the EEOC and appellate courts issue conflicting rulings
- Identify the most common ways transgender employees are discriminated against or harassed in the workplace, with an emphasis on how to prevent that from occurring (including whether and when to address the issue with the transgender employees co-workers)
- Discuss how best to address requests from transgender employees regarding bathroom use, name changes in the company’s HR system, pictures employee identification, etc.
This Session has been submitted for 1.5 hours of HR CREDIT from the HR Certification Institute and has been pre-approved for 1.5 PDCs for the SHRM-CPSM or SHRM-SCPSM.
