June Program 2014

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

11:00am – 4:30pm

Scott Conference Center
6450 Pine Street

SPEAKERS:  Cy Wakeman and Pam Bourne

Keynote:  “Managing Poor Performers and Hardwiring Accountability into your Workplace”

As leaders, we spend too much time with our worst performers, and we don’t reward our best.  We over-manage and under-lead, trying to control people rather than connecting to them and their potential.  Many HR professionals justify the “over manage” approach as something required by legal or necessary to avoid potential liability, without any consideration to the true “cost” to the organization.   In this presentation, Cy Wakeman and Pam Bourne (an attorney at Woods & Aitken LLP) integrate a legal and HR perspective on how to successfully managing problem employees, while simultaneously minimizing potential liability.

Technical Session:  “Putting the Philosophy into Practice – Real Clients Achieving Amazing Results”

During the technical session a panel of senior HR executives will share practical advice on how they manage poor performs and hardwire accountability into their workplaces.

This program has been submitted for a total of 4 hours of HR credit to the HR Certification Institute for review.

About the Speakers:

Cy Wakeman works with organizations and individuals that want to thrive in difficult times by discovering new solutions to old problems.  Cy speaks from experience!  Throughout her career, she has built a reputation for achieving amazing results in spite of limited resources and challenging circumstances.  Clients in a wide variety of industries have found her guidance to be key in their successful planning and implementation of new programs and systems.  She now brings her proven and hard-hitting philosophy, “Succeeding in Spite of the Facts”, to organizations that want to break through their reasons, stories and excuses to develop
innovative solutions to long-standing issues.

Pam Bourne, Partner at Woods & Aitken, represents management exclusively on workplace legal issues. Her main focus is on preventative employment law issues. Pam’s goal is to help clients prevent employment claims from arising and to advise on HR strategies that will result in a sound defense position should a claim occur. In connection with this goal, Pam provides day-to-day counseling on a variety of employment issues (e.g., hiring, E-Verify, I-9 compliance, discipline, discharge, performance evaluations, employment-related contracts, FMLA, ADAAA, harassment, discrimination, wage/hour, state employment laws, and other areas). Pam also prepares and assists clients in developing HR policies and handbooks and conducts training for clients on a broad range of topics (e.g., how to avoid harassment and retaliation claims).
