The public is invited to enjoy a free lunch made entirely out of food that otherwise would have been wasted during Feeding the 5000 Omaha. The event takes place Sunday, October 4, from noon to 4 p.m. at Lewis & Clark Landing, 345 Riverfront Dr.

Organized by Saving Grace Perishable Food Rescue and Feedback, the London-based organization behind the international campaign, Feeding the 5000 is a public celebration around solutions to food waste. Local chefs will create a soup recipe made from surplus vegetables and other perishable food rescued from local food vendors. Also on tap are on-stage cooking demonstrations by celebrity chefs, music by local bands, interactive booth displays and children’s activities. Omaha is only the third U.S. city to host a Feeding the 5000 event, which was first held in London six years ago.

Find out more about the event or sign up to volunteer at www.savinggracefoodrescue.org.
