Downtown Improvement District Begins Search for New Executive Director

Gudenrath Leaves to Take Position in Texas

May 15, 2014 (Omaha, NE) – The Omaha Downtown Improvement District Association (DID) has launched a search for a new Executive Director and expects a strong candidate pool for the high profile position in Omaha’s vibrant downtown.  Current Executive Director, Joe Gudenrath, has been hired to lead the Downtown Management District in El Paso, Texas.  Gudenrath’s last day with the DID is May 30th

During Gudenrath’s tenure the DID has helped support, strengthen and shape the future of Downtown Omaha.  The DID has been responsible for enhanced cleanliness and maintenance, the Downtown Welcome Ambassador program, the DO! Downtown Omaha brand, the Downtown Gift Card, public art projects, security patrols, public safety forums, over 100 trees planted, over 80 flower gardens, trash consolidation, recycling, small events, promotions and advertising, event coordination, long range planning and advocacy for Downtown Omaha.  Current efforts include the renovation of 16th Street, improvements to the Gene Leahy Mall and the establishment of a partner 501c3 organization.

“During the 5 years Joe has been with the DID we’ve been able to accomplish a lot, strengthen downtown and position us for further growth and community development,” said DID Board President Bill Owen.  “This will be a great opportunity for the next Director and we are confident that person will be able to build upon our success.”

The DID is a non-profit 501c6 organization governed by a 23 member Board of Directors charged with implementing the projects, programs and services of the Business Improvement District (BID).  The BID was established by City Ordinance in 2006 and is funded primarily by a special property tax assessment levied against properties within the district.
