The Design In Motion exhibition, which opens on Sept. 22, 2015 and runs through Jan. 2, 2016 is showcased in KANEKO’s majestic Bow Truss space and highlights innovative automobile and industrial designers. Through photographs and text, viewers gain insight into the creative process behind the important, iconic, and thoughtfully-designed vehicles featured in the space.

Each of the automobiles in the exhibition is a unique and compelling work of art – but more importantly, Design In Motion will explore the designer, the process involved and the effects of these design concepts within and beyond their own industry. A similar treatment will be given to bicycles, complete with classic designs of the past and cutting-edge technological advances. Local bike shops will aid in educational programming and outreach to celebrate bicycles as works of art and modes of transportation. Design In Motion will also feature a selection of other interesting vessels, including a rare 1930 Dodge watercraft and innovative video projections to create a lively and immersive transformation of the space.

The workshop and lecture schedules are listed below. The Design In Motion opening day will be Tuesday, September 22 from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Public gallery hours are Tuesday–Friday, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Admission to KANEKO galleries is free and open to the public.

Join us for Greensprints, hosted by Greenstreet Cycles at KANEKO on Friday, December 4 from 7–10 p.m. Greensprints is Omaha’s local variant of the now global Goldsprints phenomenon. The premise is simple: take two single speed bikes, make the front fork stationary, and put the back tire on rollers hooked up to NASA-grade computers. Each bike makes its quest to cover 500 virtual meters visible on a large screen projector. The 30-second race ensues and a single victor emerges! Tickets available soon at thekaneko.org

KANEKO is partnering with Mode>Shift>Omaha to host monthly Transportation Coffee Chats throughout the run of the Design In Motion exhibition season.
