College World Series of Omaha, Inc., and the NCAA will once again fill the future site of a downtown high-rise development with the sound of laughter and the crack of the bat to create the CWS Sandlot at 15th and Dodge Streets.

The CWS Sandlot, which is 90 feet to the left and right field foul poles, and has 45-foot base paths, will officially open to the public, Friday, June 5, and close Thursday, June 11. The Sandlot will schedule many youth and corporate events, but a majority of the time the CWS Sandlot will be open to the public for play. Barring events, it will generally be open each day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. You can check the schedule and CWS Sandlot rules by visiting CWSOmaha.com or following the action at #CWSSandlot.

Plastic bats and balls are provided. No outside bats, balls or other equipment will be allowed in the CWS Sandlot. Security will be present on site to ensure the CWS Sandlot is a safe, fun, family-oriented experience.

“This is another fun and unique way of celebrating our community’s role in the continuing success of the CWS,” said Dan Morrissey of CWS Omaha, Inc. “This sandlot concept of baseball takes us back to the simple game young girls and boys play on playgrounds and sandlots across the country. It is the pure joy of the game reflected in the faces and experiences of the student-athletes and fans at the College World Series.”

“Last year’s CWS Sandlot was so popular with corporate teams, youth teams and the general public, that we’ve expanded from four days to eight days,” Morrissey said.

To help celebrate the Omaha community’s commitment to making the annual NCAA® Men’s College World Series® a success, CWS of Omaha, Inc., and the NCAA are teaming up to create the CWS Sandlot. CWS of Omaha, Inc., the nonprofit, local organizing committee of the College World Series, and the NCAA, will again build the CWS Sandlot on the former Union Pacific headquarters site, where Lanoha Development plans to build a high-rise office, condo and retail space.

Work on the CWS Sandlot begins this week. The sandlot includes wooden fencing, an entrance, wooden dugouts and chalk scoreboard.
