The musical lineup, the fireworks finale and the excitement – they’re all growing in advance of this summer’s uniquely-created, regional Zydeco Festival, sponsored by Cox Communications. The free event takes over the Pavilion at Turner Park on Saturday, June 27, from noon to 9:30 p.m. – a full day of high-energy music punctuated by Creole- and Cajun-style food and activities, and an amped up fireworks spectacular.

Modern zydeco is rooted in the blues with a Creole influence but also embraces R&B, soul, reggae and rock. The newly-expanded festival lineup features some of the most treasured zydeco artists from throughout the New Orleans, Louisiana, region:

Afternoon Session – Noon to 5 p.m.

  • Christina Balfa
  • Little Buck
  • Clinton Broussard (newly added performer)
  • Bobby Allen

Evening Session – 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

  • DL Menard
  • Major Handy
  • Lazy Lester
  • Corey Ledet
  • Fireworks finale

Midtown Crossing restaurants will be on location during the one-of-a-kind festival, offering cold drinks and “zydeco-themed” food, including:
· Wohlner’s: alligator jerky
· Black Oak Grill: crawfish boil
· Cantina Laredo: crawfish tacos and Mexican jambalaya
· Crave: jambalaya, shrimp & sausage gumbo, creole seafood linguine, beignets with bourbon Chantilly cream and “Hurricane” specialty drinks

Restaurants on the park are also accepting outdoor patio reservations.

The fireworks finale will follow the final performer, at approximately 9:30 p.m.

The free, full-day Zydeco Festival is sponsored by Cox Communications. Element Omaha Midtown Crossing is the hotel sponsor.

Midtown Crossing. Five years old. And just getting started. This is what a strong urban core looks like – a diverse neighborhood where restaurants and retail, community events and individual experiences come to life. An energetic embrace when you want to live loudly, a quiet escape when you don’t. We’re dinner conversation with friends and shopping you won’t find anywhere else. 16 acres of life’s little extras: activity, serenity, community. Perfectly centered. East of expected.
