Join us for a night of jazz on Saturday, February 8 to raise funds to restore the historic Benson Theatre building and contribute to the community growth in North Omaha. Our mission to establish the Benson Theatre as a shared community space includes serving as an alternative stage in north Omaha for the metro’s existing nonprofits, schools, and performing arts organizations. On February 8, musicians from the University of Nebraska at OmahaDepartment of Music, Brownell-Talbot School, and the Benson community will perform from 5:00 to 10:30 p.m. in the The Pizza Shoppe Collective. The Benson Theatre Project is currently raising $250,000 to purchase the Benson Theatre building by April 2014. Built in 1923 as a vaudeville theater, the Benson Theatre has fallen into disrepair and is in need of a full renovation. The event is free, but donations for the Benson Theatre are encouraged. The Theatre building will be open next door for tours, and Benson Theatre staff and volunteers will be on hand to discuss the organization’s next steps and to take donations. We hope to see you! |
