AMI ENVIRONMENTAL CELEBRATES 30 YEARS IN BUSINESS

Buildings are dangerous. Or at least they can be. That’s why AMI Environmental (AMI), was founded 30 years ago: to protect building occupants from facility-based environmental problems.

Asbestos Management, Inc. (AMI) was established in 1986 as one of the first asbestos consulting firms in the Midwest and instituted many of the procedures used in the environmental industry today. The firm’s growth was fueled by the passage of the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) that created requirements identification and management of asbestos-containing materials in schools.

Five (5) years later, the company was renamed AMI Group, Inc., to reflect its expanded expertise in the ever-evolving environmental health, safety and industrial hygiene fields.   Clairmont Engineering, Inc. was established as a sister company in 1994 when government contracting expanded the need for remediation of environmental risks at military healthcare facilities worldwide.

The management teams of AMI Group, Inc. and Clairmont Engineering, Inc. were merged in 2000 to deliver integrated environmental consulting and remediation services under the brand name AMI Environmental.

AMI Environmental has since expanded its services and expertise to cover the full range of facility-related issues, from asbestos and lead to indoor air quality and mold to Legionellosis and infection prevention. After 30 years in business AMI Environmental is still leading the pack in solving facility-based environmental, health and safety problems—particularly in the healthcare and education fields.

AMI works with facility owners and managers to resolve issues that harm occupant health. In a world where people will sue for their own lack of common sense, building owners and managers need help taking the proper steps to make their buildings safe so they can protect themselves from a liability standpoint.

“Thirty years ago we started out managing asbestos, and yes, the need for that expertise is still there. But the need for our other services has grown substantially in recent years,” said Daniel Taylor, founder and CEO of AMI Environmental. “We have an aging population, kids with more serious allergies and constant exposure to chemicals—it’s making everybody is much more sensitive to their indoor environments. On the other side we’re seeing more information online, an emphasis on corporate responsibility and a rise in lawsuits from occupational, residential and clinical exposures. We know building owners face an uphill battle managing their facilities, so we’re here to partner with them and help them manage these risks.”
