24 Hours of Impact (24HOI) has announced the date of the 1st annual “Day of Impact”, Friday, July 24.

Each participant group in 24HOI is tasked with designing an interesting way to help others in the community in the span of one hour.  From becoming pen pals with service men and women, starting an awareness campaign, serving meals at a local food shelter, to washing cars in velour jumpsuits – the opportunities to “make an impact” are endless.

The organization was formed in 2014 from the Greater Omaha Chamber’s Leadership Omaha Class 37.  Class members Katie Vap, Dan Hanus, Adrian Hernandez, Troy Romero, Ross Polking, Andrew Fereday and Mosah Goodman co-founded the group with the mission of making significant impact through an inspiring, purposeful, fun and service-oriented event.

When asked why he helped co-found 24HOI, Polking said, “With 8,760 hours in a year, focusing on only one of those hours to make a difference is something everyone feels they can do.”

Goal
To extract as much community betterment and philanthropy out of Greater Omaha’s communities, organizations, and businesses in a fun, positive, and competitive 24 hour period.

Who?
This event would be open to any company, organization, school group, religious organization, knitting club, etc.

What?
Each organization chooses exactly one hour to do as much good as they can. The type of good that your group performs is up to you. Get creative – do something you love.

Why?
This is a low-cost, high-impact and creative opportunity that requires minimal commitment.

ABOUT LEADERSHIP OMAHA

It’s one of the oldest community leadership programs in the nation and every year it produces effective, responsible community leaders. Leadership Omaha leads participants through a 10-month program of educational seminars, interaction with business and civic figures and exposure to different leadership styles. Ultimately, LO builds on the vital traits of a leader in a way that benefits both the participant and the community.

This issues-oriented program is designed to provide a deeper understanding of the community and key issues including human services, government and education. The monthly daylong sessions encourage an open dialogue among class members and more than 100 government officials, civic figures and business leaders who contribute as speakers.

Leadership Omaha participants are selected based on their demonstrated community involvement, career advancement and responses to a series of essay questions on the application. In addition to the monthly seminars, several optional programs are available to participants. Among them are a boardsmanship course and a police ride-along.
