On Saturday, August 27, Approach, Nebraska’s first commercial gym dedicated entirely to climbing, will celebrate it’s 1-year anniversary by hosting an all-day special event featuring professional athletes, a “Climbing Fitness Challenge,” and ½ price admission. Local music (Michael Fitzsimmons), live DJ (Brent Crampton), food trucks (Johnny Ricco’s Brooklyn Pizza and Prairie Fire Pizza), craft beer (Farnam House Brewing Co.), product demos (by FrictionLabs and Five Ten), and a raffle with climbing gear prizes round out the fun-filled day.
Approach, in partnership with adidas Outdoor, is proud to present Pro Climbers Chelsea Rude and Jon Cardwell for a feature presentation at 8:00 P.M. on the sport of climbing followed by Q & A sessions. Rude, who is currently ranked top 10 in the world for both sport climbing and bouldering, will lead a presentation on the “Allure of Climbing.” Cardwell will recap his climbing journey on Biographie at Ceuse in France. Biographie (aka Realization) is one of the most famous sport climbs in the world and only 13-climbers have completed the project with Cardwell being the most recent in 2016. Pre-ceding the presentations will be a meet and greet and poster signing at 7:00 P.M.
The “Climbing Fitness Challenge” from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. is open to all ages and free to enter for Approach Members or with paid admission (½ price Anniversary Day Pass & Rentals). The five-challenges include: crate stacking, dyno, campus board, static hang, and traverse climbing. Prizes will be awarded for both adult and youth. Approach is located at 72nd & L St. in Omaha.
