By Melinda Sorenson, Manager – Volunteer and Member Engagement
If you’re going to donate your time, effort and expertise, you want a return. I’m not talking about pats on the back (though who doesn’t like a pat on the back every once in a while?) I’m talking about the knowledge that you’re making a real impact in our community while developing yourself personally and professionally.
Throughout the year, our Chamber relies on volunteers to accomplish our mission and vision. During 2016, there were about 60 different clubs, councils and task forces originating out of the Chamber that collectively engaged over 1,000 people! We’d love to have you on board.
Maybe you’re looking for something that’s equal parts challenging, rewarding and impactful? I’d invite you to consider The President’s Club, our all-volunteer membership “sales force.” This avenue of involvement really does bring it all together:
- Serving your community by helping to grow one of the largest, strongest chambers in the country
- Developing personally and professionally with access to a seasoned group of sales professionals, continual “on-the-job” practice of a variety of sales techniques, and leadership opportunities
- Having fun with quarterly contests, great incentives and exciting outings
PC members are expected to bring in a minimum of $5,000 annually by selling at least 6 new members and working renewals. All the while, you’re developing contacts you can build business relationships with and introduce to your company’s products and services.
“I’ve developed personal and professional relationship with the most motivated and positive group of sales people and business professionals, and Chamber Board members know my name.” – Chris Hernandez, Eakes Office Solutions
If you’ve ever described your biggest weakness as being “too passionate,” “too engaged” or “too into building relationships,” let’s talk about another avenue of service – our Engagement Council. We’re looking for the “wooers” among us.
As an Engagement Council volunteer, you’ll reach out to new Chamber members to help them feel connected and encourage them to get involved. Volunteers attend one meeting a month to receive insights about Chamber programs and events for their own benefit and to share with members. Then, we’re out and about in the community, supporting and thanking members for belonging.
“In our busy lifestyles, we often find ourselves balancing work, family, community . . . life! Chamber members appreciate the extra “nudge” they receive in their first year or two, inviting them to network or engage with other professionals in the community. Getting involved with the Chamber becomes a wise investment of time as well as dues.”– Ric Miller, Outlook Nebraska, Inc.
Our Chamber volunteers love doing what they do. They know that when you believe in what you’re doing, satisfaction and impact are all but guaranteed.
