From small business startup to one of our city’s largest employers: North End Teleservices’ holistic approach to employment and growth
From a modest goal of creating 200 jobs to now employing nearly 1,000 people, North End Teleservices has found success as more than a contact center—it has become a powerful engine of community empowerment in northeast Omaha and across Nebraska.
North End Teleservices has redefined what it means to be a successful business by placing people at the heart of its mission, breaking down employment barriers and proving that corporate success and community uplift can go hand in hand.
The company was founded nearly a decade ago, providing contact center solutions to state agencies, the federal government and businesses including Fortune 500 companies. Part of the $280 billion call center business process outsourcing industry, North End’s growth brings local, national, and federal dollars into our community, helping to fuel its growth.
“We have always put people first,” said Carmen Tapio, CEO of North End Teleservices. “We’re committed to investing in people, communities and reinvestment in our state.”
Aimed at creating jobs in northeast Omaha, the company now employs nearly 1,000 people, far surpassing its original goal of 200 jobs, and has offices around the city. They’re also hiring significant numbers in western Nebraska, creating impact.
“Our success is a recognition that it’s not just about individual success,” Tapio said. “It’s about family and community success. This means going beyond traditional employer roles and effort.”
Among those efforts is a transportation service that picks up employees on their doorstep and brings them to work, making transportation less of a barrier.
“We help people not just overcome barriers to employment and help reduce the impact the economy has on their wallets. We really lift them up and help them in every way that we possibly can,” Tapio said.
North End’s membership in the Chamber has created important connections for the business and helped the company find success.
“I love the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce,” Tapio said. “It really is where business gets done. You have an opportunity to network, make meaningful friendships, share ideas, learn new things, and be a part of advancing our region.”
Networking with fellow Chamber members has been extremely important. Not long after when North End Teleservices was first founded, the company was honored as the Chamber’s Small Business of the Month. Tapio accepted the award in a room full of CEOs, and she decided to give proposals to everyone in the room.
“It was an opportunity,” Tapio said. “We’re doing business with many of those organizations to this day. The willingness of Chamber members and leaders to help each other network and form new relationships is a priceless benefit that comes with being a part of the organization.”
