Initiative Explained
The Community in Action Initiative is a unique initiative dedicated to honoring and celebrating individuals who are making significant strides toward building a more inclusive and equitable Omaha. This program shines a spotlight on leaders, advocates, and community members working tirelessly to make Omaha more inclusive, whether through their business, education, advocacy, or grassroots organizing leadership.
We will recognize a diverse group of champions who are committed to creating spaces where everyone, regardless of background, feels valued, respected, and empowered. These honorees may be individuals who have initiated groundbreaking programs, advocated for marginalized communities, or simply embodied the principles of inclusion in their everyday lives.
Through the Community in Action Initiative , we not only celebrate their accomplishments but also amplify their stories to inspire others in the community. By recognizing these trailblazers, we aim to foster a culture of inclusion and collective responsibility in Omaha—one where progress is driven by community collaboration and action.
This recognition serves as both an honor and a call to action, encouraging others to step forward and contribute to Omaha’s growth and success. Whether through mentorship, advocacy, policy reform, or community engagement, the Community in Action Initiative showcases the power of individual contributions in shaping a more just and inclusive society for all.
Recognition Requirements
The Community in Action Initiative is designed to honor individuals who have made meaningful contributions to the Omaha community. Those selected will receive a commemorative recognition coin, symbolizing their commitment and impact. To be considered for this recognition, applicants or nominees must meet the following criteria:
- Active Community Contributions: The individual must demonstrate ongoing dedication to improving Omaha. This could be through leadership, volunteer efforts, advocacy, or community-focused initiatives that contribute to the growth, well-being, and unity of the city.
- Measurable Impact: The individual’s efforts must have had a significant, positive impact on the Omaha community, whether by initiating programs, organizing events, advocating for change, improving the quality of life for local residents, or impacting the organization’s organizational culture.
- Values of Service and Collaboration: The individual should exemplify values like service, collaboration, integrity, and inclusivity, working to strengthen Omaha’s community bonds and create opportunities for all.
How To Apply
1. Nomination or Self-Nomination:
- Individuals can be nominated by a peer, colleague, or community member.
- Individuals may also apply for recognition if they believe their work aligns with the program’s mission to uplift Omaha.
2. Application Submission: Applicants must submit the following materials to be considered for the Community in Action Initiative:
- Application Form: A completed form with personal details (name, contact information, organization, etc.).
- Impact: Share why you think this individual deserves to be recognized and share what inspired you to nominate or share your own story.
- Personal Statement (optional for nominations, required for self-nominations): A 500-word statement from the nominee describing their community efforts, challenges faced, the positive changes they’ve created, and their vision for a better Omaha.
- Supporting Documentation: Any relevant materials, such as media articles, testimonials, or examples of initiatives led by the nominee.
3. Application Deadlines:
- Applications and nominations are accepted on a rolling basis, with specific awards being given out continuously.
4. Selection Process:
- A committee composed of Omaha community leaders will review applications. Finalists may be contacted for further information or interviews. Winners will be selected based on their alignment with program criteria and the impact of their work on Omaha.
5. Recognition and Coin Presentation:
- Individuals selected for this honor will receive a Community in Action recognition coin. This unique coin will symbolize their extraordinary contributions to Omaha and serve as a reminder of their dedication to making the community a better place. Honorees will also have the opportunity to share their stories and inspire others to take action.
