Growing Business Means Expanding Opportunity
Creating a business climate that fosters growth, attracts new businesses and encourages the expansion of existing business is critical to the quality of life enjoyed in Omaha. Through the Chamber’s Public Policy team, we are active participants in the political and legislative processes that lead to the development of public policy – directly contributing to the ability of companies to participate in decisions that impact their success and their bottom line.
From city and county government, to the State Capitol in Lincoln and on to Washington, D.C., our public policy staff advocates efforts to protect, support and improve the business environment through:
Development of public policy and strategy that create a competitive business climate
Pursuit of legislation, incentives and regulations that enhance economic growth in Greater Omaha and throughout the state
Promotion of a shared vision to improve the business climate statewide
Recruitment and support of pro-business candidates at the state and local levels
Notification of member companies about legislation impacting their businesses
Organization of meetings and events with local elected officials and business leaders, as well as an annual trip to Washington, D.C., to meet with Nebraska’s congressional delegation and federal policymakers
In additional to focusing on general business issues and member inquiries, the public policy staff also provides support for the Agricultural Council and Transportation Council. During legislative sessions, the Public Policy team maintains a legislative billboard of bills being considered by the Unicameral that are of particular interest to business.
