A Vibrant Urban Experience
Dedicated to returning midtown Omaha to prominence as a destination of choice for local residents and visitors, Destination Midtown is a partnership linking neighborhood associations, businesses, public and private institutions, the city of Omaha government and the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce.
The goal is simple: to preserve, improve and enhance midtown Omaha.
Sparked by one of the largest and most proactive planning studies undertaken in Omaha, Destination Midtown focuses on a 3.6 square-mile-area bordered on the north by Cuming Street, the south by Center Street, the east by 24th Street and the west by Saddle Creek Road.
Densely populated with 7,700 residents per square mile, the midtown area is known for its tree-lined streets, historic architecture and economic and racial diversity. It is a mix of large companies and small businesses; teaching hospitals and medical facilities; grand mansions and family residences.
Destination Midtown consists of Executive Director Jamie Grayson-Berglund and a board of directors. They are working to implement an Action Plan that focuses on:
Neighborhood Development, including revitalizing midtown neighborhoods and increasing the quality of life for midtown residents
Economic Development to better the historic mixed-use neighborhood business districts within midtown and encourage rehabilitation, redevelopment and retail attraction
Transportation/Corridor Development, including enhancing the public transit system and improving existing streets and traffic patterns
Coordination via Destination Midtown to realize the vision.
Destination Midtown is advancing the goals and objectives of the Action Plan and supporting private and non-profit development to revitalize midtown Omaha. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Destination Midtown raises its own funds via grants and private sources in order to promote the program and its mission.
