Enjoy

Omaha is the place to enjoy.

If days were more than 24 hours long, there still wouldn’t be enough time to enjoy all the fun things to do here.

With a population of more than 1.2 million within a 60-minute drive, Omaha is the 43rd largest city in the nation. That’s big enough to offer a bit of everything.

We have fireworks shows, fairs, outdoor markets and festivals that celebrate every reason and season. Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo logs more than a million guests each year. Beauty dwells at the Lauritzen Gardens, Omaha’s Botanical Center near the Missouri River; at Memorial Park with its fabulous rose gardens; and at Zorinsky and Cunningham lakes in west Omaha.

When it comes to style, Greater Omaha doesn’t follow the East Coast or the West. We have our own. In art and fashion, the city’s museums including the Joslyn Art Museum and The Durham Museum, galleries such as Hot Shops Art Center and Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, and the shops at the historic Old Market, to the vibrant north and south 24th Street districts and west to innovative Village Pointe please every mood and taste.

Speaking of taste, our more than 1,000 restaurants range from four-star elegance to four napkin barbeque. After dinner, the city boasts many fine theater groups. Nationally-recognized productions are staged at the Omaha Community Playhouse and the John Beasley Theater. Big-name performers including U2, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and Neil Diamond thrill audiences at Qwest Center Omaha. The Orpheum Theater and the Holland Performing Arts Center offer opera and ballet, symphony, choral and Broadway productions. The North Downtown residential, retail and entertainment district adds to the exciting options.

If going out means outdoors, there are state parks, city parks, family entertainment parks and water parks. Biking and jogging trails. Water skiing and cross country skiing. Tennis courts and championship golf courses. Lakes and magnificent recreation sites.

Spectators have a field day with nationally-ranked college sports teams, and professional and amateur hockey clubs. Qwest Center Omaha is the site of the 2008 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball First and Second Rounds, the 2008 Women's Division I Volleyball Championship, the 2008 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials and the 2010 NCAA Division I wrestling championships. Rosenblatt Stadium is home to the NCAA Men’s College World Series and the Omaha Royals AAA baseball team.

Those who move at the speed of night will enjoy Omaha’s bar and club scene, live music from jazz to indie rock, and comedy clubs.

So much to enjoy. Will you ever find time for work?
