Cass, Sarpy and Washington County Announcements Reflect Momentum
Three of the partners in the Greater Omaha Economic Development Partnership made news with business announcements last week.
John Yochum, executive direct of the Cass County Nebraska Economic Development Council, helped Nebraska Title Company identify available office space in the Plattsmouth area. Yochum worked with Nebraska Title Company’s staff to review applicable business assistance programs, and helped connect them to the right community resources.
According to Yochum, “Nebraska Title Company has been a good partner with our economic development council, assisting with land research information for our site development committee. We are delighted to work with them as they expand their services into Cass County.”

Graepel North America Inc. celebrated the grand opening and ribbon cutting of their new manufacturing operation in La Vista on April 19. Gov. Dave Heineman and other elected officials attended. In October, the Sarpy County Economic Development Corporation announced Graepel’s plans for their first-ever U.S. manufacturing plant. According to recent information, the project will result in 16 full-time positions and the company will invest $2 million to complete it.
After six years of planning and promoting, Gateway Development Corporation, Metropolitan Community College, Blair industry partners, the city of Blair and Washington County officially opened the Washington County Technology Center on April 22. The center will house educational programs designed to train candidates for technical jobs at the Blair biorefinery campus and Fort Calhoun nuclear power station.
Gateway spearheaded the efforts to form the public/private partnership required to bring this facility to reality. That included raising $550,000 to lease and renovate a facility and provide funding to operate the facility through 2015.
